Strong calls for major changes in the Indian setup, including Rohit Sharma’s resignation as the longest format captain, have been made in response to the degrading defeat. It doesn’t seem to be occurring any time soon, however. <p>Rohit will have another opportunity to end India’s ICC trophy drought later this year at the 50-over World Cup, which is set to take place. India last won an ICC trophy in 2013, when MS Dhoni led India to victory against England in the Champions Trophy.</p>
<p>Dilip Vengsarkar, a former selector and 1983 World Cup champion, has been quite upset with present operations in the Indian squad. India’s loss in the ICC knockouts has been the main talking point for quite some time.</p>
<p>In an interview, Vengsarkar criticized the individuals who held the position of selectors in previous years for failing to develop a strong contender to succeed Rohit Sharma as India’s captain.</p>
<p>The selectors I have seen over the last six to seven years regrettably lack both vision and a thorough understanding of the game of cricket, as well as cricketing sensibility. When tours conflicted and key players were absent, Shikhar Dhawan was appointed captain of India; here is where the next captain is developed, according to Vengsarkar.</p>
